An idea for the Ready Player One film adaptation:

I am a huge Ready Player One fan! I have read it multiple times and am thoroughly entertained and impressed by Cline's storytelling and world building.  Everyone should read this book!

Now that the book is being turned into a movie, there is a chance to rectify one of the problems I had with the story... the 3rd gate... After how cool the fist 2 gates were, the 3rd gate was kind of a disappointment (unimaginative). Here's my rambling thoughts on how it could have been done instead:

****Spoiler-ish stuff below******

I thought that doing another straight up video game challenge and another be-in-the-movie challenge was a bit lazy and creatively uninspired. But I DID like how he tied in Tempest with the Shakespeare quote "I must uneasy make lest too light winning. Make the prize light." I thought that fit beautifully with his story. So keep the Tempest in there, but "Beat the high score or be destroyed" was kind of uninspired. It needed some kind of twist, like how Black Tiger was reimagined from the first-person perspective, he could have made the Tempest creatures come out of the screen as reference to the Bishop of Battle (The best segment from the 80s horror anthology "Nightmares" http://www.i-mockery.com/minimock... )

Likewise, just acting out Monty Python and the Holy Grail was just a rehash of the first gate challenge. There wasn't even any risk or challenge for him, since he had his buddies there to help him out with the lines. Instead, I think he could have kept the premise of going inside a movie but change it up a little. My idea is that he has to face a series of 3 challenges recreating famous movie show-downs/obstacles, and the secret to winning is remembering how the hero in the movie overcame each challenge. For the first one: (I don't really have a great idea for this one, maybe the Sphynx gate from Neverending Story? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I... ). For the second challenge, he has to face the Rancor from Return of the Jedi, (and beat it by dropping the door on its head) For the final fight he could face the killer bunny from Holy Grail, and has to beat it with the holy hand grenade (which will only work properly if you forget how to count to 3) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t...
